I'm an emotional man
I've had the most of my lifespan
I tried not to hide
Inside a book on a nightstand
As soon as I say
I've got my hands on my reins
I'm running wild again
It's gonna drive me insane
I worry a lot
My eyes are all bloodshot
Trained on a lane
With calamity so fraught
The light at the end
Has got to fight its way in
Before I go for a spin
Or even know to begin
I'm crying out loud
When I'd be better off silent
I think I'm allowed to
All alone on an island
There's always the chance
That the plea will be heeded
By a ship in my zone
Accidentally blown
I need a new goal
To hold me together
Defences against
The threat of inclement weather
It could be a while
Before the fog will have lifted
Far enough to determine
How far I have drifted
It is not for me
To pass any sentence
The people are free
To act in their own best interests
And if they decide
To take it out on the hide
Of the one who would play them
I would not delay them
But I in my fear
And I in my blindness
Could well have caused bloodshed
From a motive of kindness
I cannot return
To the time of my erring
Make a different choice
For a pummeled fool's sparing
I'm crying out loud
When I'd be better off silent
I think I'm allowed to
All alone on an island
There's always the chance
That the plea will be heeded
By a ship in my zone
Accidentally blown
