Conviction

Conviction
They're letting Lilly run amok in the town
Getting frilly for the first man she found

I wouldn't try to put a sun her sky
Before a cloud drifted by and erased it
I wouldn't strive to keep conviction alive
Because the effort would only be wasted

The drunken dentist is a veteran hand
Keeps his apprentice on a separate plan

I wouldn't try to put a sun his sky
Before a cloud drifted by and erased it
I wouldn't strive to keep conviction alive
Because the effort would only be wasted

Deep inside a mental cage
A hope flies independently
Keep astride a page of time
Relentlessly to turn aside
Chances stacked on sandy layers
Scatter in the gusting gale
And take the laggard by surprise
His enterprises doomed to fail
Discontented in the early stages
Of a slow ascent
When other faces racing past
To loftier abodes can smile
When other hands that reach for love
Beseech him to his love's denial
